Don’t pay more than you have to for anything! Right? Yeah. Introducing Dupe Fridays. I’m starting off with perhaps the most obvious dupe of them all: L.A. Girl Lip Paints. I mean, look at that packaging. What the hell! But, if you’re looking for lots of pigment and a high gloss finish, you might be interested in these guys.
Consistency. As you can tell by the swatches, the consistency is very different. I prefer the Too Faced in this case because it’s much creamier. The L.A. Girl lip paint is very thin and glossy. Neither are sticky, I just find the Too Faced lipstick more comfortable on the lips, especially for long-term wear.
Applicator. Too Faced’s product has a sponge tip applicator. No one really likes these for hygienic reasons, but I find it makes it really easy to apply. L.A. Girl’s applicator is standard plastic and dispenses too much product at once (as you can probably see in the swatch). You don’t need to use a lot of this product at all, so that’s kind of a nuisance.
Wear Time. This may have something to do with Too Faced’s creamier texture, but it certainly lasts longer. Both will last 2+ hours though, so if you don’t mind having to reapply, L.A. Girl may not bother you terribly.
Formula-wise, these are not really dupes. However, if you’re looking for a color or finish similar to the Too Faced lipsticks, the L.A. Girl Lip Paints are a great, more affordable option. Right now, I’m into really dewy skin with completely matte lips anyway, so these can both be damned. When I turn the corner, though, I’ll probably favor the Too Faced lipsticks for their consistency.
